Port Tobacco River Conservancy invites artists of all ages to submit original artwork inspired by the beauty, history, wildlife, and significance of the Port Tobacco River.

This community art contest is an opportunity to celebrate the river through creativity while helping raise awareness for its protection and preservation.

Artwork will be displayed during Night on the River on Saturday, August 29, where attendees will have the opportunity to view submissions and vote for their favorite pieces.

Contest Theme

All artwork must depict, represent, or be inspired by the Port Tobacco River, including its:

 

  • Wildlife
  • Landscapes
  • Natural beauty
  • Cultural or historic significance
  • Environmental importance

Who Can Enter

The contest is open to artists ages 6 and older. Participants will compete in the following age categories:

 

  • Ages 6–12
  • Ages 13–17
  • Ages 18+

Accepted Art Forms

We welcome a variety of artistic expression, including:

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Photography
  • Mixed media
  • Sculpture
  • Digital art
  • Other original artwork

All submissions must be original work created by the participant.

Digital art must be printed and ready for display. Sculpture and three-dimensional pieces must be display-ready.

Submission Guidelines

Each participant may submit up to 2 entries
Artwork must be completed prior to submission
Artwork must be suitable for public display
Each piece must be clearly labeled with:

  • Artist’s name
  • Age category
  • Title of the piece
  • Contact information

Submission Deadline: August 1

Drop-off location and instructions will be announced closer to the event.

Display & Voting

All submitted artwork will be displayed during Night on the River on Saturday, August 29.

Event attendees will vote for their favorite pieces during the first part of the evening, and winners will be announced during the event.

Artwork will be reviewed based on:

  • Creativity and originality
  • Connection to the Port Tobacco River theme
  • Artistic skill and presentation

Awards

Awards will be given in each age category for:

  • Best in Show
  • People’s Choice

Prize packages may include cash prizes, gift cards, art supplies, PTRC merchandise, outdoor/nature-themed items, certificates, and featured recognition through PTRC communications.

Optional Artwork
Donation & Auction

Artists may choose to donate their artwork to Port Tobacco River Conservancy.

Donated pieces may be included in the Night on the River auction, with proceeds supporting PTRC’s mission to protect and preserve the Port Tobacco River.

Artwork donation is completely optional and must be indicated at the time of submission.

Artists who choose to donate their work will be recognized for their contribution.

Important
Notes

  • PTRC reserves the right to photograph submitted artwork and use images for promotional purposes
  • Artists retain ownership of their work unless they choose to donate it
  • All artwork must be picked up after the event unless donated
  • Night on the River is a 21+ event; youth participants do not need to attend for their artwork to be displayed or considered for awards
