Monitoring Water Quality in the Port Tobacco River

PTRC, in partnership with the Potomac Riverkeeper Network (Citizen Science Volunteer Water Monitoring Program) is now performing water quality testing in the Port Tobacco watershed. This is in a effort to provide reliable weekly water quality data for those who swim, paddle or fish in this tributary of the Potomac River. We test in two locations: near the Port Tobacco Riviera community and at Chapel Point State Park.

Each Friday morning, testing results are posted on the Swim Guide Organization’s website. This organization delivers free up-to-date water quality information for over 8,000 beaches, lakes and rivers throughout the world. The info is also available as a smartphone app.

PTRC will be testing water quality weekly during the prime recreation months, May through September.
