The PTRC/BSA monofilament fishing line recycling bins are already having an impact on Port Tobacco’s shoreline areas! Although we are just emerging from the winter season, local anglers have noticed our new bins and have begun to properly dispose of unusable tangled fishing line.
We’re saving lives!
Inappropriately discarded fishing line poses a serious threat to river wildlife and routinely kills birds, turtles, fish and small mammals. And unfortunately, monofilament does not decompose easily and can be a hazard for hundreds of years.
While this is a great start, we’ll need to continue out efforts to educate the public.
Many thanks to Boy Scout Troup 424!
